Learn more about Laurel /Nokomis

Laurel is a town in Florida with a population of 9,283. Technically speaking, it is the northern part of Nokomis bordering on Oscar Scherer Park. Nokomis, which was mentioned the first time in 1917, is the older part of the neighborhood and includes the upscale barrier island of Casey Key.

Laurel Park is a subdivision in downtown Sarasota, that has nothing to do with this Laurel. Names are sometimes a little confusing.

A Mix of different residental areas

Living in Laurel offers residents a suburban rural mix feel; most residents own their homes, renters are the minority. Real Laurel is a mixture of older, smaller homes, single-family residences, and multi-million dollar homes, especially on Casey Key. The price tag for homes on Casey Key can easily exceed the $15 million thresholds. There are no gated communities on the key, and very few on the mainland, compared to oter areas.

A few restaurants and parks are scattered through Laurel. Shopping and dining is close by and the beach is just 2 miles away.
