Nokomis – relaxed beach town living

Nokomis, Florida

Bordered by the cultural city of Sarasota to the north and vibrant city Venice to the south, Nokomis is known for its beautiful beach, many shopping opportunities, and cultivated residential areas. The unincorporated town includes Casey Key and Nokomis Beach, which is one of the oldest beaches in Sarasota County. This beach is located at the south end of exclusive Casey Key, a barrier island.

What to expect in Nokomis

Nokomis offers small-town living and a relaxed beach town atmosphere, while also experiencing all that Florida’s Gulf Coast has to offer. Somehow, the area around Nokomis and Osprey was able to preserve some of that laid back “Old Florida Charm.” Visitors can experience this “special laid-back feel” in nearby restaurants, waterfront Tiki-bars, and small shops.

Real Estate in Nokomis

Nokomis real estate is a mixture of old and new, small and big. Gated communities of all sizes offer luxurious homes and a headache-free living. The buyer has many choices, and he can build his dream home according to the latest building code. Older communities offer homes that sometimes need a lot of attention, but you do not live in a community where the trees consist of a bunch of bonsai’s. So, you have pros and cons, but Nokomis has a wide variety of opportunities.

Not in the Boonies

Having this “special” laid-back feel doesn’t mean that you are in the boonies. You are only minutes away from first-class entertainment, festivals, fine dining, shopping, art exhibitions, first-class schools, parks, excellent hospitals, and everything else you would expect to find in a big city. Where is that? Well, Sarasota is only a stone’s throw away from Nokomis.

The Barrier Island of Casey Key

The barrier island of Casey Key, which part of the Nokomis community, is home to Florida’s most extravagant residences. On this little spot of land, houses worth many millions of dollars are lining the key along the beach of the Gulf of Mexico. But many more extravagant homes are facing the Intracoastal Waterway on the east side of the island. Some celebrities, like Stephen King, call Casey Key, their home during the winter months. We don’t know how he could get inspired to write those horror stories while residing in such lovely subtropical surroundings. But it seems that you can have nightmares everywhere.

The Location is Excellent

Check it out on the map, and you will find out that the location of Nokomis can’t be any better. Residents can enjoy the proximity to Venice to Sarasota. Furthermore, thanks to the Interstate I-75, Nokomis is close to Tampa, Fort Myers, and all the international Airports.

Grocery stores and other shops are close by and the area beaches can be reached in a short time. The Legacy Trail runs through Nokomis, which might not be a big deal for everyone, but biking and hiking enthusiasts like that idea. It is a beautiful trail connecting Sarasota with Venice where no motorized vehicles are permitted.

Overall, the home prices are lower compared to Sarasota, and you don’t have the craziness of the traffic that you have in other locations.
