Learn more about Laurel /Nokomis
Laurel is a town in Florida with a population of 9,283. Technically speaking, it is the northern part of Nokomis bordering on Oscar Scherer Park. Nokomis, which was mentioned the first time in 1917, is the older part of the neighborhood and includes the upscale barrier island of Casey Key.
You may stumble upon a community named “Laurel Park,” but this has nothing to do with Laurel. It is a subdivision in downtown Sarasota. Names are sometimes a little confusing.
A Mix of different residential areas
Living in Laurel offers residents a suburban – rural mix feel; most residents own their homes, renters are the minority. Real Laurel is a mixture of older, smaller homes, single-family residences, and multi-million dollar homes. The price tags for those homes can easily exceed the $15 million thresholds.
A few restaurants and parks are scattered through Laurel. Shopping and dining are close by, and the beach, Nokomis Beach on Casey Key, is just a few miles away.
