Placida Florida – an insider’s tip

Placida, Cape Haze, Florida

Charlotte Harbor, Grove City, Murdock, Port Charlotte, Rotonda West, El Jobean, Little Gasparilla Island, Deep Creek, and Placida are the unincorporated communities in Charlotte County. So, Placida is only one of many in the County, but it is somehow unique.

Placida is a Low-Density Area

If you love uncrowded tropical areas, Placida is the place for you. It offers an unparalleled waterfront lifestyle with short boat rides to Boca Grande, Cabbage Key, and the turquoise waters of the Gulf of Mexico. There are plenty of small Islands where you can drop your anchor and spend the daytime.

Placida offers homes on the water with private boat docks or Luxury Condominiums with water views and boat slips, they are gated and non-gated. Townhomes with elevators and four-car tandem garages to store your boat, kayaks, bikes, cars, and toys are also available.

An old Fishing Town

Because of the perfect location, Placida started as a fishing village in early 1900. Close to Gasparilla Sound, it was easy for fishermen to set sail and go fishing in the Gulf of Mexico.

Fish were so abundant that they jumped right into their boats. Today the fish don’t do that anymore, but many are still in the water. When the fish packing plant started operation in the 1940s’, Placida ended its state of hibernation and became a hub for the fishing industry. For many decades business was good, and the community was thriving.

Sometimes Good Times Draw to a Close

However, the fish packing factory closed its doors in the 1980s’, because commercial fishing was no vital factor anymore. Although residents and visitors still enjoy fishing the local waters, the focus has shifted from commercial to more leisurely fishing activities over time. The fishermen only compete with pelicans and cormorants, but the once declining fish stock seems pretty healthy again.

Placida is Ideal for people who love boating, fishing, and water activities.

The famous fishing grounds make Placida ideal for people who like boating, fishing, and activities on or in the water. There is easy access to the Intracoastal Waterway, Gasparilla Sound, Charlotte Harbor, and, of course, the Gulf of Mexico. With the right boat, the Gulf of Mexico is only a short ride away. Only trying to reach the Gulf with a canoe may take a little while because the currents are pretty strong in specific locations, but nothing is impossible.

What to do if you don’t have a Yacht

Even if you don’t have a large yacht, fishing boat, or kayak, you can still spend a fun day on the water. Just rent a powerboat or kayak and enjoy your day. You may even join the Freedom Boat Club without buying your boat.

If biking or hiking is your favorite sport, check out Pioneer Trail Park. You can bike for 8+ miles through mangroves and nature, a beautiful trip. The Placida Fishing Pier is great for trying your luck with bait and hook. You can go to the nearest Restaurant for a nice grouper dinner if you are not so lucky with your bait.

Placida Real Estate and Homes for Sale

Placida Real Estate offers waterfront homes on creeks and canals, but some homes are directly on the Bay. Newer and new condominiums are also on the market. Many of those homes come with a home for your boat as well. Some of the homes are on large lots, too, but large lots are not so common anymore. Most of the lots have a typical standard size. You may also pick a builder and build your new home according to your specifications. There are quite a few reputable builders who are known for beautiful high-quality homes.
