Port Charlotte
Port Charlotte is located halfway between Sarasota and Fort Myers. With a population of approximately 62,000 people, the City has an average size for the Sunshine State.
The proximity to Charlotte Harbor, a massive body of water, is what makes the location so unique. Port Charlotte has more than 150 miles of natural and human-made waterways, and many of the canals provide direct access to Charlotte Harbor, the Peace and Myakka River, and consequently, to the Gulf of Mexico.
Boaters, who are not so experienced, love Charlotte harbor because it is easy to navigate and relatively safe when the weather changes. Being 70 miles out on the Gulf while a storm approaches can be a different story.
A Community with diverse Neighborhoods
Port Charlotte has the character of a large, planned community. Besides an area along the US-41, the town is quiet and basically residential, with a substantial percentage of retirees and snowbirds. Compared to Englewood, Venice, or Sarasota, one can say that this town is not particularly touristy. When tourists spend their hard-earned money, they want to be in heaven, and heaven is usually directly on the beach, or where you can at least smell the ocean. Port Charlotte is about a 20-minute drive away from the beaches of the Gulf of Mexico. For residents who live there all year round that doesn’t make a difference. Tourists, who stay in the area for a couple of days or weeks, that is “unbearable.”
Port Charlotte is one of the best places to retire with a laid-back lifestyle, easy water access, and many golf courses.
