North Port is the fourth largest city by land area in Florida, with 77 square miles of land and an 8,000-acre state forest within its city limits. Twenty-five years ago, North Port was still a sleepy village nobody knew. That has changed dramatically. Today, North Port is a thriving community with plenty of job opportunities for younger people. Exciting job opportunities, paired with great leisure activities, are the perfect combination that attracts young families, while the latter also appeals to the retired folk.
Warm Mineral Springs in North Port
There is also something special in North Port. It is called ”Warm Mineral Springs.” People say that it is a sinkhole filled with warm water. That description sounds a little disrespectful.
The primary source of water is a spring below the lake which is the only warm mineral spring in Florida. Although those springs are not the “Fountain of Youth,” which the Spanish Conquistadors were trying to find, they come pretty close. It feels good when you are floating in that warm water because you can forget your aching bones and joints for a while
The springs are located right at the western boundary of the city, and they are pretty hot. Those hot springs may not be too attractive during the hot summer months when the sun is beating down on you, but when the cooler winter months come, the Warm Mineral Springs are an appreciated option to warm up the aching bones.
North Port, Florida, Aquatic Center
The North Port Aquatic Center is a beautiful addition to the city. The Aquatic Center includes a 25-meter stretch pool, a lazy river, a kids activity pool with zero entry, two slides), a bowl slide, shade structures, a bathhouse with locker rooms, a small concession area, fencing, and more. The 25-meter stretch pool can accommodate 25-yard (or 25-meter) lap swimming and competitions.
North Port – Golf, Parks, and Recreation
There are plenty of parks, golf courses, and walking trails in North Port. Beautiful Myakkahatchee Creek Environmental Park offers walking trails, kayak/canoe launches, picnic shelters parking, and restrooms.
The Blue Ridge Park is a neighborhood park and provides water access to the Blue Ridge Water Trail, with a playground, restrooms, and fishing dock.
North Port has many dog parks as well. Check them out here. There are plenty of Gulf Courses in the area for all Golfers, and North Port has two championship Golf Courses as well. They are Heron Creek and Bobcat Trail, two well-maintained golf courses in gated communities.
