Port Charlotte Lifestyle
The location of Port Charlotte is more or less perfect - directly on a body of water called Charlotte Harbor. It is a natural harbor, not a man made one. It looks actually more like a huge lake with a connection to the Golf of Mexico. The water is very shallow, therefore, for seagoing vessels this harbor does not make sense.
There are also no port facilities, although, the name tells you otherwise. So, all those "Ports" (port Charlotte and North Port) are no ports whatsoever.
Nevertheless, Charlotte Harbor is like an El Dorado for boaters and fishermen with small watercraft, and everybody who likes to be around water likes Charlotte Harbor.
Port Charlotte Real Estate
We pointed already out before that Port Charlotte, North Port and Punta Gorda, although they are located on or near water, do not have beaches. Charlotte Harbor is great for boating and fishing, but there are no beaches.
Many homes are on canals and beautiful creeks , but those canals are not necessarily connected with Charlotte Harbor, from where you can go to the Golf of Mexico via Intracoastal Waterway. Although, there are homes on canals with connection to the "big pond."
In Port Charlotte and Charlotte County you can find a wide range of homes and townhouses at affordable prices. You are actually trading in an affordable homes for a little longer ride to the beach. But what does affordable mean? It means that is less expensive compared to other areas like Sarasota, Venice or Fort Myers.
It is nice to have a home on Siesta Key, minutes away from the beach, but those homes come with a special price ticket. The closer you are to the beach, the better equipped your bank account needs to be. It is that simple.
A Brand New or Resale?
We are talking about "pros and cons" of new construction vs. pre-owned homes. There are communities offering brand new homes, and there are builders who build new homes on their or your lot.
However, there are also many resale homes on the market. Many are well kept or even updated, professionally landscaped, and they are overlooking a wide canal with access to the Gulf of Mexico. Some are on freshwater canals or lakes..
Port Charlotte does not have too many gated Golf Communities, but the ones that are there are gorgeous.
