Placida and Cape Haze - a Tropical Waterfront Lifestyle
In the beginning, Placida started as a fishing village. The location was perfect because fish were abundant that they jumped into the boat. The fish don't do that anymore, but there are still many of them in the water. However, the fish packing factory is long gone, only the shell of the building is still there. Commercial fishing is also no important factor anymore since the government put a ban on net fishing.
Residents and visitors still enjoy fishing the local waters, though, but it has shifted from commercial to more leisurely fishing activities over time. Now the fishermen are only competing with pelicans and cormorants and the fish stock seems to be pretty healthy.
This makes the community ideal for people who like boating, fishing, and activities on or in the water. There is also easy access to the Intracoastal Waterway, Gasparilla Sound, Charlotte Harbor and, of course, the Gulf of Mexico. With the right boat, the Gulf is only a short ride away. However, trying to reach the Gulf with a canoe may take a little while, but nothing is impossible.
If you love uncrowded tropical areas, Placida is the place for you. It offers an unparalleled waterfront lifestyle with a short boat ride to Boca Grande, Cabbage Key and the turquoise waters of the Gulf. Small Islands, where you can drop your anchor and spend a daytime. If you prefer a gated community, it is also available. Homes on the water with private boat docks, or Luxury Condominiums with water views and boat slips. Explore town-homes with elevators and four car tandem garages to store your boat, your kayaks, your bikes, and your cars. Maybe there is even some room for your new Harley Davidson.

If biking or hiking is your favorite sport, check out the Pioneer Trail Park. You can bike for 8+ miles through mangroves and nature nothing but nature. Ahhh.
The Placida Fishing Pier, for example, is a great place to try your luck with bait and hook. You can go to the Fishery Restaurant for a nice grouper dinner and a glass of wine, or you can go on a field trip to Gasparilla Island. Beautiful beaches there, and a great ice cream parlor in Boca Grande, the village on the island. There are excellent restaurants as well, and there is a golf course on the island. Six bucks, yes, the bridge tender will deprive you of six dollars. But that includes the way home already. it is worth it. If you want to spend time on the water, you can book a fishing tour or a trip to Cabbage Key. Why Cabbage Key? There is an "Old Florida Style" Inn and Restaurant on that tiny island, and this is clearly something special.
Located on the Cape Haze Peninsula, Placida is a sun-blessed historic fishing village with Gasparilla Island, Little Gasparilla Island, Don Pedro, and Palm Island as neighbors.
Placida Real Estate offers water-front homes on creeks and canals. Homes directly on the Bay are also available. Many of those homes come with boat access to the Gulf of Mexico.
Golf Course properties are available in gated and non-gated golf communities. Homes on large lots are on the market, too, but they have become a little scarce. The counties are now promoting high or higher density communities. Homes on acreage do not belong to that group of properties anymore.
Placida Real Estate is kind of interesting because there is a residential lifestyle for everyone and almost every budget. Many homes are a little older and need some help, but there are communities with brand new homes and brand new condos as well. However, keep in mind that many of the older homes are located on beautiful lots.
You may also pick your own builder and build your new home according to your specifications. There are quite a few reputable builders, who build beautiful homes.
