Longboat Key and its Neighborhoods
Longboat Key is Anna Maria Island’s neighbor to the south. This 12 mile-long barrier island is basically a huge luxury Gulf Coast resort community. The City of Longboat Key, incorporated on the 4th of November, 1955, is divided into 2 halves. The northern section belongs to Bradenton while the southern half belongs to Sarasota County. A large number of the 6,000 islanders are retirees who live in extravagant condominiums or mansion like homes. Activities on Longboat Key revolve around the championship golf course, the tennis club and fine dining. In short: the island’s theme is “a relaxed and elegant lifestyle” at the same time.
Arts and Activities
The Longboat Key Center of the Arts, the Longboat Key Education Center or the Longboat Key Triathlon offer different activities. However, beachcombers and boaters will be happy, too. Compared to Anna Maria, this island is a completely different ball game. You can call it “elegant” versus “laid-back”.
Real Estate on Longboat Key consists basically of condominiums and single family homes. The condominiums are lined up along the Gulf of Mexico. Most of the single family homes can be found on the east coast of Longboat Key, along the Intracoastal Waterway. Some of the bigger homes are on canals, hidden behind lush sub-tropical vegetation. Longboat Key is one pearl on a string and one of the many barrier islands along the west coast of Florida. One of the most hidden Islands are south of Gasparilla Island, where the Gulf Waters are emerald green and clear.
